ACCIDENT TO THE ROTOMAHANA.
[PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.] BLUFF, October 29.
' The Rotomahana, when entering harbor this morning, grounded at the stern of the Ocean Chief. Spring tides, with a southwest breeze, caused the ebb tide to run very strong. When the steamer passed the lightship at 7 a.m. Captain Webster slowed the engines preparatory to running up to the wharf. He evidently did not allow for the strength of the tide, and before way could be got on the steamer again the tide took charge and slewed her out of the channel and carried her on to the rocks between the lightship and the Ocean Chief. She went on without bumping, and lay quietly while the tide receded. The starboard anchor was lot go and held well. The tide turned at 9 a.m., and at 10.30 sh* floated off quietly and steamed alongside the wharf. A diver wont down to examine her bottom, but the water was too thick to tmake a reliable examination. The examination made inside shows three large dents, hut no signs of a hole anywhere. The vessel is making no water, and it was decided to go hack to Dunedin and get the Rotorua to take her trip.
