The bazaar in connection with the Primitive Methodist Church in Christchurch was opened to-day in the promises recently occupied by Messrs Beauchamp and Bell, Colombo street. The flower stall was under the care of Mrs M. J. Brooker, Here was displayed a quantity of out flowers, ferns, As. The next stall, which is for tho sale of fancy goods, is under the charge of Mrs Ward and a number of lady assistants. Beyond this again is the stall provided by tho bachelors of the congregation, The young men, with a thonghtfulness which did them credit, had made provision for future hearths and homes, by having a rocking-horse and other articles dear to the infantile mind. The next fancy stall was in charge of Mesdames Burns, Fulham, Fiddes, Hankins, Ac. The last stall is prepresided over by Mesdames Baker. Preston, Ac. There is also a galvanic battery, Gipsy tent, magic well, Ac. Punch and Judy, and an exhibition of scientific instruments close the list of attractions at tho bazaar, which is open also to-morrow and Saturday. Shortly after noon the bazaar was opened by his Worship the Mayor. Prior to the opening address a verse of a hymn was sung. Tho Eer. Mr Ward then requested his Worship the Mayor to open the bazaar. Hi* Worship said it gave him great pleasure to be present there that day and to open the bazaar. The ladies of the congregation certainly deserved very great credit lor the very admirable display made. He trusted that they would receive liberal patronage in order to accomplish the object in view. He could really wish that instead of being so many denominations that they could all be gathered under one banner. But as this was impossible he could only say that it gave him great pleasure to see tho ladies working for the good of their Ohnrcb, and endeavoring by means of their handiwork to collect fund* for it. He now declared tho bazaar open, and tendered them bis heartiest wishes for their success. [Applause.) A vote of thanks to hi* Worship closed this part of the proceedings, and business then commenced.
