A number of Natives from Kawhui and np the country have already arrived for the meeting. The Bank of New Zealand's forty-second half-yearly meeting was. held to day. The directors' report shows a net profit for the half-year, after making allowance for doubtful debts, &o„ of £98,921 17s 9d, to which was to be added a bslsnoe from last half-year of £IOO3 12s 2d, making a total of £109,925 9a lid, which it is' recommended to appropriate as follows : —A dividend at the rate of 10 per cant, per annum, £50,C00; a bonus of . 5s per share, equal to 5 per cent., £25 000 ; addition to reserve fund, £25.000; bi'ance to profit and loss now account, £9825 9s lid. The following is a statement of the assets and liabilities ; —Liabilities— Capital made up, £1 000,000 ; reserve, £575,000 ; notes in eiroulation, £523,428 ; bills in ciroula ion, £1,781,4=11 16i 8:1 ; deposits and other liabilities, £7,775,365 16) 8d ; balanoe £109,925 9s lid ; total, £11,764,130 13« 3d. Mr B\ Sutton, M.H.R., addressed his constituents aS Hastings last night and was well received. He dealt ohiefly with the legislation of last seraion relative to looal government. Tha Old English Fair in aid of the Wealeyan Church funde is a grand suoocbs. An aooident happened to a merry- go-round last night. The point of the post worked out of the top socket, and the whole thing came down when goiog at full speed. The cats were full of children, who were all thrown out, one being picked up senseless, but otherwise sustained no injury. A sharp shook of earthquake took plaoe at four o'clock this morning. Tho new Volunteer regulations are not favorably received by the local corps, many of the members regarding them as a death blow to volunteering in this district. WELLINGTON, Ootober 25. The following telegram has been received by the secretary of tho Marine Department, from the Harbormaster at Manukau: —"In consequence of Heron Spit having grown southward of it* former position we have had to shift the south head beacons, to lead a course on the south side of tho Trsnmere shoal to clear Heron Spit until the present upper beacon ways are extended northward, Tho southern ptunr-go requires close attention paid to the pointing of the semaphore arms; to guard og.-iiant approaohing tho southern shoal and the blind rollers whioh extends from Heron Bpitr"
