INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.
An ordinary meeting of tho committee -of tho above was held at their rooms last ovonins. Present —Messrs A. G. Howland (president), in the chair. VV. 3. Kicg, R. W. Ragland, P. Jenkins, J, B Sheath, D. Recto, B. E. B .nks, H. Curktt, and others.
The Ofiairrnansta'ec that the business to be considered was ai to tho resolutions forwarded by the Reef bon Railway league. Ho had received a copy of a telegram lately from that body to the Mayor ov Christchurch, asking him to use his influence with tha Government with x view of defining the functions of the Royal Commission lately appointed to coneidor routes for tho Middle Island trunk line el railway, and of pressing on that commission the necessity of taking evidence re tho route by Ada Pass and Oj.nr.ibal Gorge. Some conversation took place oa the matter, and finally the following resolution was proposed bv Mr England, seconded by Mr Buchanan, aqd carried, “That this association, while bring anxious to 00-oporate with the Oity Council cr any other body in farthering the formation of a railway to the West Coast does anb wish to take the consideration of tho resolutions of the Roeffcon league out of their hands " A copy of this resolution was ordered to bo cent to the Mayor, The feeling of the meeting was that it was out of their power, or at nny rate not desirable, to take up the matter second hand. Mr Banks said he found by the papers that the Hospital committee recommended sending to England for cooking apparatus. He snored a resolution to the effect that every endeavor should be made to induce the authorities to favorably considsr the prior alarms of the local manufacturers. A copy of tha resolution to be sent to tho committee.
Several members spoke to this resolution, pointing out that apparatus of the kind, superior, or at any rate quite equal to, English awake, were being turned out here every
Chairman said he was much pleased to find that Mr Banks had brought this matter op. They, as an association formed to foster local industries, ought to watch every opportunity of advancing their claims. Mr Oarlott seconded the resolution, which was earned unanimously. A p'oocjtl by Mr Banks to make a dominion of £5 6s in the name of the association to the Benevolent Association was negatived, il being considered illegal to appropriate the funds in that manner. The meeting then terminated.
