The Royal Commission appointed to enquire into the organisation and working of the Victorian Police Force have concluded its sitti|pg. The Commissioners in their report ‘Recommend that Sub-Inspector Lamer and Superintendent Winch be called npon to resign their appointments. Received October 13th, 8.55 p.m. The N.Z.L.M.A. Company, Limited, (of Melbourne) announce that the opening sale of the season will be held on October 19th. Groat importance is attached to the event, owing to the expected attendance of large numbers of foreign buyers being greatly in excess of any previous year. The clip generally in Victoria and New South Wales is reported to be smaller than last year. Active competition is expected in the case of sound well grown wools. It is anticipated that the total exports for the year will show a decrease of 500,000 bales. Queensland will on the contrary show a considerable increase compared with last year. The clip generally is of an excellent quality. The following is the latest betting for the Melbourne Cup;—Bassanio and Boolka, each 100 to 8; Sweet William, 100 to 12.

Sailed, this afternoon—The Union Company’s steamer Rotorua, for Auckland.

New Zealand wheat has declined Id per bushel, and is quoted to-day at 5s 3d ; New Zealand oats farther advanced 3d per bushel here during the week, and are now worth 3s 9d; maize, per bushel, 5s 7d. Sugar Company’s No. 1 pieces, per ton, £35. The strike among the Newcastle colliers has terminated, the masters having at length consented to yield the 3d per hoar demanded by the men.

Wheat is quoted at 6s; prices, however, . are nominal. Town flour, per ton, £l4 5a to £l4 10sj country brands, £l3 ss. There is nothing doing in the freight market.
