[reuter's telegrams.] MELBOURNE, October 11. Winnifred has been scratched for th« Melbourne Cup. Malting barley is firm, at 5s Id to 5s 3d for superior quality; shipping, which declined 2d to 3d during the week, was quoted to-day at 6s 7d to 6s 9d. Ths market is dull. New Zealand oats are in good demand. Stocks are light, and prices have further advanced 2d to 3d during the week. Feeding qualities are worth 4s 4d to 4s 6d, and milling 4s 5d to 4s 7d. Sailed this afternoon—Union Company’s steamship Arawata, for the Bluff. Arrived—Steamship Sikh, from London.
There was no change in the betting on the Melbourne Cup. Cunnamulla is still the favorite, at 100 to 12. SYDNEY, October 11. Arrived—Union Company’s steamship Botorna, from Auckland. A large number of men connected with the iron trade who have been on strike have now resumed work at Mort’a engineering works.
