He has, it has 1 transpired, been instructed to suspend the resumption of hia former duties of control, and it is expected that these will now be permanently abolished. In Egypt here is a general feeling of hatred againtt the French, The collieis are conceding to the proposals of nine owners, and a general strike has been averted. Lord Dufferin protesting against their withdrawal, which he considers to be premature. M. Da Ltsaeps has wired to the Commission before whom Arabi is being tried that Arabi protected the canal. European counsel in Alexandria have declined to take np Arahi’s defence. The Germans are promoting the unison of the Powers. Sir S. Northcote has received the freedom of the city of Glasgow. October 6th, 5.15 p.m. Letters have been found which prove that M. De Leseeps assisted Arabi. The Powers agree to allow Greece to join the Indemnity Commission. It has been decided to release the muleteers, and Lord Dufferin threatens to resign if his advice is disregarded. Received October Bth, 12.45 a.m. Oct. Bth, 8 a.m. Mustaffa, one of Arabi’s leading men, and who took a prominent part in the i recent outrages, has been executed at Alexandria. A destructive fire broke out at Birkenhead, and resulted in a largo quantity of valuable property being consumed. Germany is carefully watching Russia’s operations on the frontier. The Queen will shortly visit Netley.
