ST. ALBANS BOROUGH COUNCIL.
An ordinary meeting of the above Council was held last evening at half-past seven o'clock. Preeent—his Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Crs. Turner, Mann, Smith, Dickenson, 8011, Boustrea and Money. A petition was rsid from certain residents in Shirley protesting, on sanitary grounds, against the issue or renewal of slaughterhouse licenses in the dietriot. On the motion of Or. Turner, the petition was ordered to be considered when any fresh applications for licenses wero received. The finance oommitteo reported that the rsoaipts for the fortmight amounted to £4B 15s lOd t that the balanoo in the Bank was £291 2i 4d ; ard that the accounts passed for payment amounted to £95 9s. Or. Dickenson moved, and Or. Bull seconded—" That a nctioe be published in terms of clause 170 of the Munioipal Corporations Act, that it is the intention of the Borough Council to raise a loan of £10.009 for the following purposes : —For the widening, reforming and metalling of roads within the borough ; for the formation of f cot paths; for the sinking of walls for watering'purposes, and for works incidental thereto ; and to levy a epeoial rate to defray the interest theracn." Motion agreed to. A letter was read from Mr J. B. Greisoh, asking the Oounoil to continue the road which he and Mr H. J. Henderson wero forming through rural section No. 242, so ae to take it along tha ban-c of the river, and to place a bridge over tho stream which crosses tho road at tha oorner of Mr Hall's and Mr Baodae' land. Beferred tc the worka committee for their' report. A letter from tho Drainage Bosrd, directing attention to the defective condition of the side channel on the North Silt from the Carlton Hotel westward, was referred to the works committee. The treasurer of the Ohristchuroh District Drainage Board wrote, requesting cheque for all moneys collected on behalf of Board to date It was resolved to forward a oheque for £2OO on account of rates collected. A letter was r?ad from Harper and Co., asking the Council to undertake the formation, &.0., of Qreaford roads, and to call for tenders on Mr Bsalay's behalf, and submit them to Harper and Co. The suvvejor web instructed to obtain plans and estimate?, and»ill for tenders. Messrs J. and T. Disks forwarded particulars of trials of their nssr wcter lifter. The letters were ordered to lie on the table. _ This was all the business, and the Council adjourned. _______
