HAWKB'S BAT J.O. MEETING. (PBBSB ASSOCIATION T3U2GRAM ] HABTIKG3 SOUTH, October 3, The Spring meeting of the Hawke's Bay Jookey Club oame off to-day at Hastings. The weather was dull but fine, with a lignt breeza blowing. About 2000 persons were present on the course. The betting fraternity was fairly represented, and there were two totaliaators, which latter did not appear to work smoothly at first. The first event—the Hawke'sßay Guineas —brought out a Sold of seven horees, Kingask, Bangipo and Toota being the favt rites. The following are ths results : HAVfXH's Bat Gtjikbas, of 105 sovb, with a sweep of 5 bovs added, for three-year-olds. Distance, 1 mile. Kingask, Bst 101 b 1 Ronjjipo, Bst 51b 2 Yankee, Bst 101 b 3 A difiloult start was effected, Yankee leading off in grand form, and maintaining his position for nearly half way round the course. I Teota, who was rather refractory, ran off the

course at the start, and Carmen followed suit atthebaokof the course. Yankee, Kicgask, Rangipo, and Mahanga were now well together in the order namod, with Laribandiere, who was never in the race from the commencement, far behind. Ooming into the straight Yankee rußbed forward, but was soon collared by Kingaek, who was in turn disposed of by Bangipo. An oxoiting race now took plaoe between the last-named pair, Kingssk winning by soarcely half a length, Yankee and Mahanga making a good third and fourth respectively. The Handicap Hurdle Sacs, of 60 sovs; distance about 2 miles. a. a. I Moniag Star * ! A field of fivo faoed the starter Borneo was scratched. A. G. led off followed by Morning Star. Lonehand came to grief at the first hurdle, and rolled over, throwing his rider. Tartar missod the hurdle at the back of the coarse, leaving the race to Morning Star, A. G. and Ruahine, who ran in tho order named. The Becond time Ruahine ran behind the hurdle near the judge's box, thus reducing the raoe to two competitors. Morning Star, who had the raoe apparently all hie own way, fell at tho last hurdle, the bit getting out of his mouth, and did not finish, A. G. coming in an easy winner. Tartar, Lonehand, and Morning Star were favorites in the totalsator.
