GERALDINE EACE3. Second Day. In the early morning and up to a little after eight o'clock there were heavy rhowerg of rain, but long before the racing commenced the weather cleared, and what rain fell had the effect of improving the running ground considerably. Thera was a strong nor’-wester blowing, but this had very littlo effect on the attendance, the patrons of the turf again mustering in full force. A great many came down from Geraldine, where they bad gone to spend the night, and the train from South brought in a good number cf visitors, a considerable number also coming from the outlying districts. Mason’s totalisatcr was again on the coarse, ■ large snm of money being put through the machine during the day. On the first day great inconvenience and delay was experienced in getting Press messages sent through from Orari, but this diffioulfcy was obviated yesterday, an operator, being specially despatched from Ashburton far the purpose. King Quail and Sir Modred were the favorites for the Cap, bat the pen was run through the latter’s name early in the . day, both for the Cap and. Flying Handicap, the result being that the betting on King Quail improved, and later on in the day Ming Quail justified the confidence placed in him by his numerous backers by winning the Geraldine Cnp after a most exciting and capital race. Siesta was scratched for all engagements, and a stroke of the pen was applied in the ease of Turquoise for the Cap. The principal creoleon the programme for both days were well contested, and the Geraldine Racing Club are to be congratulated on the succetcini termination of a most pleasant and thoroughly enjoyable meeting, the quality of the racing on both days being particularly good, the attendance large, and everything passing off in a very satisfactory manner. Appended are the results of yesterday’s running.

Mr F. Hedge’s Onr Pony (Qlaaeon) 1 Mr Crawley’s Brenda (E'obbs) 3 Mr Pofi’s Naughty Boy ... (C. Cornelius) 3 Fire started for this event, namely, Naughty Boy, Brenda, Our Pony, Bogardus and Sandy. Onr Pony jumped away and led, Brenda second, and Sandy third. Onr Pony led to the first hurdle, where he baulked, and Sandy came up and was first past the stand, but baulked at the second jump. Onr Pony got clean over, and led the wsy over the remainder of the course, winning by any number of lengths to spare, Brenda being second, and Naughty Boy third. There waa £123 in the totaliaator, £29 being on the winner. Gesaldiwb Cup of 100 sots. Distance 2i miles. Mr 3. Horsetail's br h King Quail, aged, 7st 131 b, Yattenden—Quail ... ( Wattie) I Mr J. H. Williams’ b f Problem (late Elaine), 3 yrs, fist 71b, Leolinus —• Equation (Peerdom) 0 Siesta, Turquoise, Sir Modred and Luna were scratched.
King Quail and Tasman were the favorites. The quartette were sent away to a good start, Tasman quickly assuming a slight lead to the turn coming towards the stand. Passing the stand the first time Tasman was still holding a lead, Welcome Jack second, Problem third, and King Quail close up. Thi* order was maintained to the back of the course, when the lot got well together, and raced for soma distance in a cluster. On passing the ctand the second time round Tasman was still loading, with Problem second, and the other two in close attendance. This order was maintained far some distance, when King Quail came up and raced nock and nock wiih 'Tasman. On nearing the turn previous to coining into the straight home, Welcome Jack crept in, and a splendid race ensued to the finish, King Quail winning by jest hair a length from Welcome Jack, Tasman being third and Problem last. Time, 4min 2Ueo. There wsrs £197 in the totalisator, £75 being on the winner. Lambs’ Purse of SO sovs. Welter weightc for age; gentlemen riders; distance 14 miles. Mr Q. Lawson’s ch g Comet, 4 yrs, 10st 1110 (J. Warner) I Mr W. Bishop’s b o Curate, 3 yrs, 9st 21b (W. Bunt) 2 Mr P. Butler’s b f Trinket, 3 yrs. Set 131 b (Wyatt) 3 Dexter, Lady Perditi. Lottery, and Clarence also ran. Curate and Trinket wore the favorites* Trinket led at the start, with Curate second, and the others close up. Coming round tha turn and past the stand the first time Curate was leading, with Trinket second, and Dsxtcr third. At the back of the course Comet esma up and ran into third place, and coming down the straight to the last turn got in front of his horses and took tfco lead. A splendid race home ensued between the Comet, Curate and Trinket, Comet landing the event to ths credit of the Newmarket Liable by halt a length from Curate, who beat Trinket by a length for second plaoc. Time, 2min 50isec. Thera were £177 on the totaliaator, £l4 being on the winner. Butins Handicap of 50 sovs. bix fmdongo, Messrs Mason and Valianoe’s Turquoise, «st 3ib 1 Williams) 1 Mr D. Holderaess pressed the leader, with Marchioness close up. Nearing home the pace increas.-d, ai-d all thioo were well together. Marchioness led well- and locked liks a winner, hat having tho c utsldo place did cot succeed, and a grand race resulted ae above by a half length for first place. (Butler) 2 Sebecca led, closely followed by Trinket from the start to finish.
