STUD HORSE PARADE.

Managing Committee—Messrs W. Norman, T. Bruce, J. T. Ford, J. Deans, J. Ferguson, and F. O. Tabart. The annual parade of stud horses, under the auspices of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, took place to-day on the grounds of the association. The weather was all that could be desired, and the Tramway Company had laid on special trams for the occasion. Despite these inducements, however, the attendance was not nearly so numerous as on former oooaoions. Mr Messenger, of His Lordship’s Larder, had set up his tent, or rather his barrels, in the shed devoted usually to dairy produce at how times. The parade as a whole was fairly successful, the two principal events being the advent of the American trotters, and of the new purchase of the Middle Park Company, the aristocratic Apremont. The total number in all classes parading was fifty-two, the absentees being Messrs Fleming and Hodley’s King of the Bankers and Mr Orosbie’s Muir Lad. The comparative statement stands thus : 1881, 1882. Ponies ... 3 7 Roadsters, Ac. 6 4 Colonial thoroughbreds ... 19 14 Imported thoroughbreds ... 3 2 Colonial draughts 30 24 Imported draughts 5 3 The ponies were a fairly good lot, somewhat out of condition, except Mr Doyle’s Dick Turpin, which is a very handsome horse. The great interest, of course, centered on the class for roadsters, in which the American horses imported by Messrs Kerr and Eobert Wilkin were exhibited. There was also standing out in strong relief from his lighter companions a Norfolk trotter. Young Performer, who ought to get good strong roadsters and cobs. Irvington had many admirers, and so had Berlin, both horses looking very fit and in fine condition. Blackwood Abdallah also attracted a good deal of attention. Of the colonial thoroughbreds, except Falcon, St. George, Traitor, Korari, and Hornby, those exhibited do not call for any special remark, Marmion, despite his aristocratic pedigree, looked far more fitted for the roadster or carriage class than amongst the sires of the flyers of the turf. Faloon looked very fit, and so did Traitor and Korari, the latter especially so. St. George also looked well, but Hornby was a bit on the big side. Oadogan and Apremont were the only representatives of the imported thoroughbreds. The latter looked every inch a gentleman, and oame out as fine as a star. Oadogan also was in good buckle. The class for colonial draughts included several whoso proper place would be the dray shafts or the plough, but there were a few good ones, notably Lord Baglan, Prince Eoyal, Victor, Champion and Lord Glasgow. There were only three imported draughts paraded, Chancellor of Blackball, Sir Walter Scott and Young Vanquisher. The two former were paraded last year, but the latter was not. All three were in good form, especially Chancellor of Blackball. The names of the horses paraded in the various classes sure appended:— PONIES. Mr W. C.
