TRAMWAY EXTENSION.
A special tram left the Tramway Station, Cathedral square, shortly after ten o’clock this morning, conveying two of the director* of the company, and also Mr Peterkin, the traffic manager, to Woolston, where they were met by the Commissioners of the Woolston Town District, and proceeded together over that portion of the Ferry road between the Woolston terminus and the Swing bridge. The advisability or otherwise of lowering the roadway was discussed, and it was agreed that no serious alteration need be made. It was also arranged that the rails will be laid on an easy gradient, end that the spare earth and metal removed from the crown of the road shall be utilised in making a pathway on the north side of the road the whole length of the way, viz., from St. John’s Church, Ferry road, to the Swing bridge. The arrangements made were mutually satisfactory. Wo time will be lost in constructing the proposed length, as the rails are to hand, and it is not thought likely that any delay will arise.
