ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

The ordinary meeting of the Council - above was held at the Commercial m 330 p.m. yesterday. Present—Messrs Kimbell, Boye, Morshman, Farr, Bridge*, and Dr. Britten. „ _ On the motion of Dr Batten Mr Boy* took the chair. Dr. Britten reported that he had put 2000 trout in the Upper Avon and 1000 in the Heatbcote. Several accounts were passed for payment. A letter was read from the Anglers' Society, asking the Oonnoil to request the Domain Board to allow the members holding licenses to Ssh from the culvert on the Biocarton road to the bridge across the rivet from the Domain to the cricket ground. Mr Kimbell moved—“ That the society apply to the Domain Board for the permission as required." . Dr. Britten seconded the motion, whicn was agreed to. A letter was read from Mr Shury, forwarding a cheque from Mr Octavius Digby on behalf of the funds of the society. It was resolved to forward a license to Ssh to Mr Digby, as requested. A letter was read from the Poverty Bay Society, stating that only 500 of the 1000 trout ova sent up had arrived safely. This it was pointed out was not the fault of the caretaker, but the Poverty Bay Society now asked for a rebate on the price of the fish, or compensation for the loss which had It was agreed that the Poverty Bay Society be allowed to hare 8500 trout free, they making the arrangements for the transit ot the fish. __ A letter was read from Mr Wharton, applying for 600 trout to turn out in the stream* in the Waiau district. The request wa* agreed to. _ , A letter waa read from Mr W. D. Wooa, asking for lomo of the ferrets to be imputed by the Government, to turn out at Eaikcura. It was resolved that the letter be sent to the Government. A letter was read from Mr Hi K. Inffoon, asking for five hundred fish to turn out in the tributaries of the Little Bskaia. It waa resolved to grant the request. A letter was read from the Queenstown Society asking for some pheasants, _ The Secretary stated that the society would be able to spare some pheasant*. It was resolved to reply that the society would send the pheasants in the season. The Secretary painted out that Mr Armstrong had cut down a quantity of broom on the grounds of the society, which had been planted to shelter the grounds, Ha had complained to Mr Harper, the chairman of the Domain Boaid, who had written to the secretary stating that Ur Armstrong had not cut the broom on the grounds of the sssociatioru A letter was read from Mr Cook asking for 1000 trout, for liberation in the Ohoka. The request waa granted. Dr, Britten said he should like to know the cost of breeding trout, and the amount received therefrom, so as to see whether or not the society was paying away far more money than they received. The Secretary said he could not ctate offhand, but he would bring up a report ou the subject. The Council decided to distribute the trout ova as follows: —River Avon, near Government Buildings, 2000, and 1000 New Brighton ; 1000 for the Hslsweil, 500 in the Styx, 1000 to Mr Chirks Clark’s estate, 1000 to the Ashley (upper waters), 1000 Little Hirer, Upper Avon 2000. It was resolved, after some discussion, that the secretary make enquiries as to the advi*ableneai of opening Lake Heron for nutting the fish or otherwise. ~M~r Bridges pointed out tKat if tcG privilego be granted the public should have equal right to fish therein. It was further resolved that the secretary communicate with the Anglers’ S chly as te the opening of Lake Heron for not fishing. The Ooupcil then adjourned.
