ATTEMPTED POISONING.
A recent arrival from the West Coast, named W. Symons, who has been staying at Kendal House, Peterborough Street (near the Gladstone Hotel), attempted his life this afternoon. He was found by Mr Ottaway, the proprietor, about one o’clock in an insensible condition, and by his side lay a bottle labelled “ Laudanum,” which, according to inscription, bad been procured from the surgery of Mr W. P. Townend, Colombo street. No time was lost in conveying Symons to the Hospital, where the usual remedies were resorted to ; but, at the time of going to press, it is not known whether he is out of danger, or has fallen a victim to his rash act. Nothing is known of him beyond the fact that he first went to Kendal House on Sunday evening, from which ho has been absent each day, returning to sleep at night, Ho he? been very reticent as to his calling, but judging from his appearance, it is thought he is a digger.
