An enormous tract of land will he brought into Court, amounting to some 600,000 or 700,000 aoree, extending in the centre of the island from Maungatautau to Lake Taupo, and including the Waotu district. The applicants are chiefs of the Ngatiraukawa tribe. There will be considerable opposition to the passing through the Court of these large blocks of land on the part of certain of tho Native owner?, who desire to part with the land only in small pieces. MABTERTON, September 28, The Bov, Mr Isitt, who has been recently advocating strict enforcement of the Licensing Act on Sundays, has been subjected to a dattardly outrage, A bottle of powder plsced under his buggy in the stable at night exploded, but did only slight damage. George Mansfield, a miner, yesterday slipped into the sludge channel, and waa washocl out to the mouth, a distance of 3300 feet. He was immediately rescued from the drop, and taken to the Hospital, where ho was found to be much out and bruised, but no bones broken. Fortunately the men on tne various claims were changing shifts at the time, or the consequences must have heen fatal. WELLINGTON, September 28.
