[keuter's TELEGRAMS. 3 Received 25th September, 3.15 p.m. MELBOURNE, September 25. Arrived, from London—Messrs. Money Wigram’s steamer Essex, which left on July 24th. A case of smallpox is reported as having appeared at Hamilton. The doctors are unanimous in their opinions as to the symptoms of the disease. The patient has been isolated, and the necessary precautionary measures have been taken. The “ Argus,” in a, leading article today on the subject of Sir Arthur Gordon, deprecates the lengthy absence of the Governor from the colony. Sir Arthur Gordon is now the guest of Lord Normanby. Piracy has been scratched for the Melbourne Gup. Received Sept. 26, 1 a.m. SYDNEY, September 25. The Alfred Hospital was opened today by his Excellency the Governor. At a meeting held this evening the Cricket Association decided not to entertain the proposed visit of the New Zealand Eleven, owing to the number of matches which have already been made for the coming season.
