LYTTELTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

This Council met on Monday night, the Mayor in the chair, and the following Councillors, viz , A. Chalmers, H. Macdonald, J. Stinson, W. Beed, J. GK Ghrforth, 8. R. Webb. The newly elected members—Messrs Fyfe, Dimond, and Weyburne, the latter re-elected-took their seats. Be surveying the Bridle Path, it was stated that it had been completed, and the plans and report would bo forwarded from the Suivey Office shortly. Messrs Austin and Kirk offered Sheffield coal at 10s par ton at the mines, but the Council was not prepared to take any at present. Accounts for £94 8a lid were passed. The subject of joining with the Harbor Board in the electric light undertaking was then considered . Or. Pyfe advocated waiting until other towns had experimented with it. Or. Chalmers said ho had gone into Mr Meddings’ figures, and had found thorn faulty. This being so it would not do to trust too much to some of the more important (statements and conclusions in the report. Under these circumstances he would move that a reply be sent to the Board to the effect that the Council refrained from taking any active steps until further informed. The resolution was agreed to. Bo a bathing place, Or. Garfcrth moved that tenders be called for the work, seconded by Cr. Slinaon, and discussed at length, resulting iu the motion being carried. Or, Webb voting against it because, as he said, he thought the completion of the sewerage scheme should have the prefer;nee, and he did not approve cither of the site cr of the style of our excavated bathing place. Agreeably with Or. Ohalmota’ suggestion the following arrangement of committees vres agreed to : —Works, lighting, and finance —the Mayor, Ore. Chalmers end Weyburne; estates, by-laws, legal, wafer supply—the Mayor, and Orr. Fyfa and Berd ; sanitary, bathing, and fire prevention—Ora. Stinson, Macdonald, and Garfovth; Charitable Aid—the Mayor and Crs, Webb and Dimoud. The “ Lyttelton Times ” was appointed the official paper for the ensuing twelve months Or. Dimond felt that there was great necessity for a public water trough, and it vrea agreed that one bo erected on Norwich quay to the east of Oxford street.
