HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the above was held at 4 p.m. yesterday. Present—Mr H. Thomson (chairman), the Mayor of Christchurch, the Mayor of Lyttelton, Drs, Tornbull and Prins, Hon. B. O. J. Stevens. A letter was read from the Government, asking whether it was necessary to repair the verandah at the Armagh street depot at a cost of £3O 16j 4d, which was more than half the cost of the whole repairs. The matter was referred to the charitable aid committee. The report of the hospital committee was read as follows:—‘‘The hospital committee reported that during tho fortnight ending September 16th, fourteen patients were admitted into the hospital and nineteen discharged, leaving fifty-three patients in the institution. During the same period there was one death. For the corresponding period of last year the number of patients was sixty,” The report of the hospital cottage at Akaroa was read, showing that there were two patients in the institution, and that in the casual ward at Lyttelton there was one patient. The orphanage report was read, stating that one of the inmates of the asylum wished to go out as a bootmaker. The number of inmates in the Ashburton Home was stated as being forty. The meeting then adjourned.
