SYDENHAM BAPTIST CHURCH.

The Baptists of Sydenham have recently erected a place of worship at the corner of Bowen street in the borough of Sydenham, and a tea and public meeting to celebrate the opening of the same was held last evening in the Oddfellows' Hall, Colombo road. The tables were provided by the ladies of the congregation, over which they severally presided. The bachelors' '.able was under the care of Messrs Farquharson and Williams, and the motto which was placed over it, " Don't forget the bachelors' table," was evidently read with appreciation by members of both sexes, as it was largely patronised. About 300 persons partook of tea, after whioh a public meeting, presided over by John Joyoe, Esq., the Mayor of Sydenham, was held. The secretary to the building fund announced that a section of land upon which the church had been erected had been secured at a cost of £3OO ; that the ohuroh had entailed a. further outlay of £4OO. making £7OO in all j that the sum of £SOO had been borrowed, and that £7O had been paid off, leaving a pre&snt indebtedness of £630. The ohuroh is so built as to be ultimately utilised as a sohoolroom when a larger church is needed. The builders, Messrs Smith and Croft, had completed their work to the satisfaction of tho building committee, and the result is a creditable building, oapable of seating 300 parsons. Addresses were dei livered by the Bevs. O. Dolamore, O. Dallas- | ton, Bev. B. Taylor, Mr Lewie and others. Tee hall was well filled.
