CHRISTCHURCH POULTRY ASSOCIATION.
The annual general meeting of the Christchurch Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Assooia tion was held at the Shades last cvei.ing at eight o'clock. There was a large attendance, Mr B. Strange, vice-president, in the cbsir. Exception having been taken to the meeting being held at the Shades, Mr H. Hale proposed—" That the meeting adjourn for a week,"
An emendment having been proposed that the business be proceeded with, the Secretary oxplained that as Mr Bashford's premises were not available, he had called the meeting at tho Shades, «» ho was not prepared tc go tLw rounds of the hotels asking for the use of a room, and the present room waa always placed at their servioo. Tho uaiondrnont was then put and carried by 17 to 10. Tho hon. sec. then read the annual report, as follows: To the Chairman Ohristchurch Poultry, Pfgeon, and Caaary Society.—Sir,—The oommittee, in presenting their fifteenth annnal report, have to congratulate the society on the ■success that has attended their show this year. Although the entries were not so numerous as they were last year, they were on the whole very good, taking into consideration the season at which it was held. The result, financially, was greater than the moat sanguine expacted, considering the weather that was experienced. As the most of tho members are _ aware, the committee made an agreement with Messrs Joubert and Twopeny to hold a show in the Exhibition building on the Bth, 9th, and 10th June, the society to give prizes and pay eost of carting pens to and from the plsce of exhibition, Messrs Joubert and Twopeny placing pens, &0., and giving the Pooiety onethird of the gr :ss proceeds. The share coming to the Sooiety under this arrangement was .£76 2a. The thanks of the Society are due to those gentlemen who actsd as jadges, and also to the givers of special prizes. The balance-sheet will be submitted by the hon. treasurer. Comparing the entries with those of 1881 the result is—--1831: Ponltry. 2)6; pigeonß, 139 j canaries, 4c, 89—45 >. 1882: Poultry, 221; pigeons, 119 ; canaries, Ac, 87 —421. This shows a decrease of thirty four on the whole number, but it must be taken into account that last year there were twenty-four pigeons entered for exhibition only, against one this year, end eleven for the flying race against six this._ This would reduce the deficiency to fifteen entries. The stat ment of receipts and expenditure was then submitted, by which it appeared the receipts were £277 8j lOd ; expenditure, £230 133 61; balanoe in hand, £46 15s 41The assets amounted to £Bll7s lOd ; liabilities, £75 6i; balance of assets over liabilities, £6 lis lOd.
The Treasurer explained that the accounts were not audited, owing to the illness of Mr Ollivier. Mr Donoghue proposed, and Mr Walker seconded balance-sheet be held over till it had been audited."
Mr Goodman proposed, and Mr Stewart seconded—" That tbe report and balancesheet be adopted," which wju carried by 14 to 11.
Several members then left the meeting. Tbe election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr G/. Gould; president, Mr B W.
