MIDLAND CRICKET CLUB.

The sixth annual general meeting of the member* of the Midland Cricket Club wi held on Wednesday evening, at the City Hotel IMr Q. Wat*on in the ichair. There *»• • good attendance of members. The Chairman announced that he bad received a letter from the president of the olub (\ir Wynn Williams, M.H.R.) stating that if possible he should leave Wellington by the Penguin on Monday, in which case he sbonld be present at the meeting ; but if the session did not close he should be unavoidably absent.

The Secretary (Mr B. T. A. Fuller) then read the annual report, which congratulated the members on the continued success of the club, which had a credit balai oa of £5 17n 4d, and asset* £lll 17s 41, the latter item including outstanding subscriptions, value of pavilion, Ac. This must ho considered very satisfactory, considering the large capitation money paid to the association for each playing member, viz., £1 ss. It was proposed to call for tenders for maintenance of the ground during the ensuing season, by which it was hopad to effect a saving and reduce tho subscription for 1883 84. at least so far as young players were concerned. During the past season the club had bean very successful. Out of seven matches ployed by the first eleven, five had been won, one lost, and one drawn, which latter was as good a* a victory, seeing the opposing teem bad to get 331 runs to win the game. Members who played in other than tho first eleven matches had also been successful, winning all bat two matches. The olub was also well represented in the match against tho All England Eleven, eight Mldlandors taking part in the contest. As regarded trophies for good play, out of six given, five were appropriated by members of the olub. The report concluded by urging all the members to pay special attention to fielding practice. The Chairman called attention to the position of the club as regarded its last year’s matches. It was essentially a playing club, and had well sustained its reputation. [Cheers.] A discussion then arose respecting some members whose subscriptions were in arrears, and it was agreed that in future the rule of the club bearing thereon shall be strictly enforced.

Mr W. H. Ataok proposed, Mr B. S. B. Bell seconded, and if; was unanimously agreed “ That the report and balance-sheet a* read be adopted.”

The election of offiosrs resulted a* follows President, Mr W. H. Wynn Williams, M.H.B; vice-president, Mr 0. Falairet; secretary, Mr X, T. A. Fuller j treasurer, Mr O. Strange; committee, Messrs B. 8. B. Bell, J. S. Buchanan, W. H. Atack, Q. Watson, L. Oo wen, J. D. Fairhurst, and T. W. Hunt; delegates to Association, Messrs J. T. Buchanan and L. Cohen ; captain first eleven, Mr B. T. A. Fuller; captain second eleven, Mr T. W. Hunt j match committee, Messrs E. T. A. Fuller, Q. Watson, and O. Strange ; junior match committee, Messrs B, S, B. Bell, H. Bow, and W. F. Hargreaves. Twenty-two gentlemen were elected members of the club.

Mr L. Cohen wished to facilitate the introduction of junior members, and be would propose— '* That the association be requested to take into consideration the offering of greater inducements for the admission of members under eighteen to clubs playing under the auspices of the association, either lowering the capitation fee or any other means that they may devise.” Mr O. Falairet seconded the resolution, which was carried unanimously. Mr W. H. Ataok moved, Mr Buchanan seconded, and it was resolved—That the committee be empowered to vote, if necessary, a sum not exceeding three guineas to the challenge cup fund.” It was decided to give bats—one tor the best batting and one for the best bowling—for others than the first eleven, the decision to be left to the junior match committee. Mr E. T. A. Fuller said he should have much pleasure in presenting a bat for the best fielding amongst the juniors. After some routine business had been transacted, the meeting was terminated by a unanimous vote of thanks being accorded to the chairman.
