[beuteb’s telegrams.] LONDON, August 23, Consols have declined to 99|-. New Zealand securities are unchanged. Five Per Cent. 10-40 Loan, 107 i; Five Per Cent. 1889 Loan, 107. Four and a-Hal£ Per Cent. 1879-1904 Loan, IOOf. Adelaide wheat remains at 48a 6d, ex warehouse; and New Zealand ditto, at 475; Adelaide flour, ex store, 355. Australian tallow—Best beef, 445; best mutton, 45s 6d. At the wool sale to-dsy 11,100 bales were catalogued, A good demand was experienced. August 24. The return match between the Australian cricketers and eleven of Gloucester, which was to have been commenced to-day, had to be postponed owing t» rain. Cetewayo embarks on the Ist September on his return to the Cape. Consols are unchanged at 99J> and New Zealand securities at last quotation. The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of Bngland is £11,125,000, being £375,000 in excess of the reserve last week. The bank rate rf discount ia unchanged at 4 per cent., and the market rate is 3fd. The market fo.- colonial breadstuffs and tallow is without quotable change. The catalogue at to-day’s wool sale comprised 3300 bales. A fair demand was ex, eriencod. August 25. A parliamentary bine book upon the natives of New Zealand has been published. Among the documents contained in it is a communication from Sir Arthur Gordon referring to the policy adopted by the Government in eonnection with the confiscated lands in Taranaki. Sir Arthur states that he considers that Te "Whlti and other Natives are entitled to land even where it may be situated within the boundary of the confiscated territory.
