In the Legislative Assembly last night the estimates of expenditure came up for consideration, when the following votes were passed:—For immigration, £250,000; for railways, £1,570,000; for defences, £70,000.
MELBOURNE, August 17.
In the Legislative Assembly last night the Bill providing for the Amalgamation of Legal Professions in Victoria was read a second time on the casting vots of the Speaker. Private telegrams from England report that the hop market will probably open with extreme rates.
