ASSOCIATION MATCH

This match was played on Saturday afternoon in Cranmer square. Of the first team of fifteen only eleven put in an appearance, whilst of the twenty soleoted for the second team only thirteen put in an appearance when the match began. The game was very evenly contested during the early part of it, the quarter-backs in No. 1 getting the ball well under control, the result being that Hammerton gained atouohdown, but failed to The second team then pressed their opponents very hard, but the baok play of the Firsts was superior to that of the other side, and oarried the ball well into the blueß' quarters, Hammerton gaining a touch-down, whioh was converted into a goal. At this stage of the game the Seoond team received an accession of strength, which turned the scale. The forwards playing well together, and bsing well backed up, they gained a touch-down, but no soore resulted. The ball baing again kicked off, the Seoond team made a grand rush, carrying the ball well over the line, and a goal resulted. The ball was again got into play, when the second repeated their previous touches, and the ball being oarried over the line, another goal was scored. In tho ncxtspell the ball was kept well in the centre for some time. The Second teamboys pulled themselves well together, and gained a touohdown, which they failed to convert into a goal. The firsts then played well together, and carried the ball well into the Blues' quarters, and, after a long scrimmage, gained another touch-down, but no goal was gained. At this stage soms of the North players hai to leave for home, and it was very evident the firsts would have it all their own w&y, and, coming with a rush, they got a fourth touchdown, and a goal was the result. The game thus ended in favor of the No. 1 team by a goal. For No. 1 team, Hammerton, Helmore, and E. Ootterill as baoks, and Millton, Lane, Haynes, and Winsloe played splendidly : whilst for No. 2 team Hall, Alabaster, ana Ben wick as baoks, and E. Millton and Hyman aa lorwards, distinguished themselves by good play.
