August 11. The oricket match between the Australians and eleven of the Players of England was resumed to-day at the Oval in the presence of an enormous number of spaotatora, by whom the greatest interest was taken in the matoh. The weather was very fine, and the wicket was in good order. The Players, with nine wickets down for 310 runs, resume.! their first innings, Morley and Sherwin, the two not outs, taking their place at the wiokets. Eight runs were added by Sherwin and four by Morley when the latter was caught, and the innings dosed for a total of 322. The Australians commenced their tint innings by sending in Massie and Bannerman. Both were soon disposed of without scoring. Murdoch and Horan followed, and for some time made a good stand ; the former was, however, at length bowled for 35, and Horan was oaught when he had put together a well playe-i 45. None of the other batsmen, save McDonnell, Giffon and Blackham, succeeded in contributing double figures. The rest were unable to stand against the splendid bowling of the Englishmen, and the innings closed for 150. The bowling of the Players throughout was dead on the wicket, and their fielding was excellent. The Australians being 172 runs behind their opponents, had to follow on. They commenced theirseoond innings by again sending in Massie and Bannerman. The first-named made a fair stand, but Bannerman sucjumbf d when he had contributed 14. Murdoch joined Massie, and both eoored rapidly. The latter was at length oaught for 31. McDonnell then went in, and had put together a well played 18, when he was caught. Stumps were then drawn for the day, the soore standing at 83 for three wickets.

August 12. The orieket match at the Oral was resumed today. There was again an enormous attendance. The weather was fine, but the Australians continued their second innings, Murdoch, the not out man of the previous day, being joined by Horan at the wiokets. The former failed to add any to his eoore, and was soon caught. Horan was caught when he had scored 3. Of the other batsmen, Giffen and Garrott alone made any stand against the splendid bowling of the professionals, and the wickets fell rapidly. The Australians ware consequently nnable to save a one innings defeat, their score only reaching 138, or 35 less than the required number.
