INSPECTOR OF PUBLIC HOURES.

To the Editor of the Globe.

Sib, —I am sure I express the desire of many a poor wife in the city of Christchurch in requesting you to continue your noble efforts to have an Inspector of Licensed Houses appointed for the city and suburbs, as it is well-known that the police cannot faithfully discharge such duty. The appointment of this officer may appear unnecessary to tho members of the City Council, and a trifling matter to the rich inhabitants of this town, but it is o£ considerable importance to many a working-man’s family. Yours, Ac., A DRUNKARD’S WIFE, llth August, 1882.
