Shipping wheat is now quoted at 6s lid to 7s per bushel; New Zealand oats are in good demand.
Various Banks in this city have raided their rates 1 per cent. It is currently stated here that the new Victorian Government loan of four millions will be issued shortly, and not, as announced by the Colonial Treasurer in his Financial Statement, in January next. SYDNISY, August 9.
Application was made to-day for a new trial of the action, Mrs Goodlet and A. Smith versus the Secretary for Public Works, in which a verdict for the plaintiffs for £87,716, compensation for land taken in Darling Harbor, was given in June last. A rule for a new trial was granted. Similar application was also made by the Hon. John Lucas, but was refused.
