In the House of Commons yesterday, the Bight Hon. "W. E. Gladstone announced with reference to the Arrears of Bent in Ireland Bill that the Government proposed to reject the amendment made to the Bill in the House of Lords, by which it was required that landlords and tenants should join in staking an application to the Conrts. The Premier, however, further announced that the Government were willing to modify some other clauses of the Bill, in order to meet the views of the Upper House. The agitation among the Irish Constabulary for an increase of pay is now subsiding, and it is hoped that the threatened strike has been averted.

Consols have declined 99f. New Zealand securities are unchanged. The Bank rate of discount is 3 per cent., and the market rate 2s. The markets for colonial breadstuffa and tallow are without quotable change. In the House of Commons to-day the Arrears of Rent in Ireland Bill was again under con "d«*tion, and the amendments proposed in the House of Lords were discussed at lemgth. Various new measures were proposed by the Premier, and all were adopted by a substantial majority. It is believed that the Upper House will consent to accept the Bill in its present form.
