CHRISTCHURCH BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION.

The following is a copy of a circular letter addressed last month to the clergy in and around Christchurch by Ur O. T. lok, as chairman of the association : Eev. and Dear Eir,—At the annual meeting of the above Association, a resolution was unanimously adopted that the clergy of tbe various denominations be requested to set aside one Sunday in each year npou which they would make a special appeal on behalf of the objects of this Association.

May I be permitted to suggest that clergymen will take concerted action to carry ont the object of the resolution at their earliest convenience.

(Signed) C. T. Icx, Chairman. As several replies had been received, a meeting of the committee was held at the office, Colombo street, yesterday, to take further action in the matter. In the absence of Mr lok (caused by a prior engagement), Mr J. P. Jameson took the chair. Thera were also present—Messrs O. Hirer, W. M. Maskell, R. W. Mitchell, H. W. Packer, W. Pratt, and the secretary (Mr B. P. Oroabie). It was resolved that a committee, consisting of Messrs C. T. Icb, J. P. Jameson, H. W. Packer, W. M. Maskell, and the mover (Mr Mitchell), should wait on the Bishop and the heads of other denominations with a view to obtain their co-operation in establishing a Charity Sunday, on which a collection shall be annually made throughout the churches towards the funds of the Benevolent Association,

It wan made an instruction to the committee to carry ont the above resolution as promptly as possible, and to suggest a Sunday in October be named on which to make the collection, and the meeting adjourned. We understand the Primate has stated that ho would be happy to receive the committee on Thursday (to morrow) at 11 a.m., and several of the clergy have expressed their approval provided it is made a general thing.
