CRICKET.
AUSTRALIANS v. KENT.
LONDON, August 7. The Australian cricketers commenced a match to-day against an eleven of Kent, at Canterbury. The weather was very fine, and there was a large attendance of spectators during the day. The Australians went first to the wickets, and succeeded in patting together 307 before they were disposed of. The batting of the visitors was much admired. Blackham, who was the highest scorer, only gave one chance duriug hie innings, which closed for 62, The other principal scores were—Jones, run out, 59; Mastie, o, 54; and Bannerman, stumped, 47. Owing to the recent fine weather the wicket was a lively one. The home team commenced their first innings after the usual adjournment, and at the close of the day’s play bad lost six wickets for 84 runs, of which Mr E. F. Q. Tyleoote contributed 28. The bowling of the Australians was dead on the wicket, and the Englishmen could not take liberties with it.
