ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

Fpeedb association tbleobam.] AUCKLAND, August 5, The following are additional particulars of the attempted suicide of Richard Moore, North Shore. The perpetrator of the rash act was an elderly man and was well known in Auckland as a wine and spirit merchant. About ten or twelve years ago he disposed of his business to E. Winter, and took hie departure from the colony, and, after a lengthy absence, he arrived from England about eight months ago, having left his wife and family in England. Shortly after hia return he again commenced business as a wine and spirit merchant in Port street, with hia second son, but the partnership was dissolved several days since, and the firm now consists of Wm. Richard Moore and Ernest Townsend, the senior partner having withdrawn. Richard Moore has been residing for some time ia a house at the North Shore. Ho appeared to be in his usual health and spirits this morniag, and there was no indication from his manner that he had any intention of taking his own life. Between nine and eleven o’clock the housekeeper. Miss Selfoott, was at the rear of the premises, when she heard a report of a pistol proceeding from the front room. Bho says she was not at all alarmed, believing Mr Moore was cleaning out his pistol, as he was sometimes in the habit of doing so. The sound of a second shot, however, aroused her feare, and, running into her employer’s bedroom, she found that he had shot himself. The first bullet struck him on the forehead, and believing that it would not prove fatal, he deliberately loaded the weapon agaiu, and shot himself in the pit of the stomach. He did not make any statement, nor was any reason assigned for the rash act. Thera was no appearance of liquor on Moore, and nothing whatever to lead to the assumption he had been drinking. Dr. Parkinson and Dr. Leo, who were called in, did not attempt to probe the wounds, ns the patient’s low condition would not permit it. He was still conscious, but the doctors entertain no hope ot his recovery, A later telegram states that Moore is still conscious, but the doctors state may linger for days. The bullet in the abdomen ia still undiscovered. Moore made his will yesterday afternoon, and stated if he recovered ho would repeat the attempt. Family troubles are understood to be the cause.
