THE MANAGEMENT OF THE COW.
She should hare abucdanes of food, that she may consume it as soon as possible; in short, she must not have to work too hard for her living. The pasture should be changed and when not iu paiture, sciiciont food should be provided. Boots early in the season require an addition of solid food, such as clover, chaff or maal. The beat roots are carrots, yellow turnips and mangold wurtzel. Corn fodder, potatoes and sugar beets are excellent. No other animal than a horse should ever be allowed in the pasture with a cow, and the oows should net be allowed to sleep ont after August. The milking oow should be kept free from rapid and considerable changes of temperature, and should not be turned out too early, as cold and chills will occasion her early falling off in her milk. Many bleeders thick it beat to bring the oows in every night in the year. Perfect cleanliness and good ventilation are of the utmost importance in the cow house, and much oars should be given to bedding the cattle. Milch oows should be milked at regular hours twice a day, and should be fed with hay or meal while being milked, as the feed engrosses her attention and help sustain the stomaoh. The hands should be perfectly dry and clean and the utmost gentleness should be used, Eomembsr that all nature is alike subject to the same natural laws, none of which can be ■ tfely violated.
