The Customs duties collected at Christchurch on Monday, July 31st, were eta follows s Spirits, £195 Sa lOd; tobacco, £lO5 14s 6d ; wine, £l4 2s ; sugar, £4O 3a Id; tea, £26 Ss 4d; goods by weight, £45 11s; ad valorem, £IBO 10s. Total, £617 2a 9d. SALE AT SODTHBEID3E. On Monday last Mr E. G. Staveley, of the firm oi Webb, Staveley and Co., conducted one of the meat successful land sales which it has been our picture to chronicle in this neighborhood. The property ia situated immediately adjoining the centre of the township, end was owned by Mr J. B. Smith, formerly of Bellfield. Prior to the sale a cold collation was spread at the Town Hall, and the hea'th of the vendor proposed by Mr Deaborongh and drum with musical honours. The bidding was moat spirited, every section being eagerly competed for at prices moat satisfactory to the owner Sections on the front streets fetched from £SO to £75, whilst the back blocks averaged about £•55 per acre The Presbyterian Church committee were the successful competitors for one of the beat blocks, which was knocked down to Mr W. Graham for some £6OO. The townspeople, with the farmers, vied with each other for the ownership of some of the sections, which realised extreme prices.
