THE KINGITES AND WINIATA.
[PEESS ASSOCIATION TKIiBGRAX-J AUCKLAND, Augusta. Mr Dnfaur, Winiata’a counsel, hai returned from the King country, after convoying the murderer's last messages to hia relatives. Ta Tawfaiao, the King’s son, said to Mr Dnfaur, the Kingites were principally vexed at the means adopted for Winiatax capture. If Packer's relatives hod come and taken him it would have been fair and just, as his body should be payment for the sin ] but for Barlow, who pretended to be a friend, who had elept in the same house and eaten from the same dish, to betray him, was very wrong and treacherous. Tawhaio remarked that both men, Wini&ta and Barlow, were murderers : Winiata had killed a man for money, and Barlow has given up one of his own people to death for money. The Kirgitca deny Winiata’s father intends taking ulu, and consider that the rumor was circulated by the Europeans for the purpose of getting the Constabulary stationed at Alexandra.
