HOSFITAIi and Chaeitablb Aid Boasd. —The ueual meeting of this Beard was held yesterday, when Mr Marsh submitted his annual report on the institutions under the ontrol of the Board, which contained some very interesting statistics.
Mbbivalb.—An entertainment took place last evening in connection with the Merivale parish, and proved a gro .t success, The first part of the programme comprised songs, glees, &0., which were well rendered by the respective performers. The second part was the comedietta, "Raising the Wind," and, judging by the frequent applause, the large audience were well pleased with the efforts made to enter ,ain tbem. At the close the ohniTm&n,'the Rev. T. Flavell, announced that he intended giving a course of three lectures, illustrated by Mr Crook's views, the first entitled " Views in London," particulars of which will be duly announced. The National Anthem and thanks to all who had participated in the evening's amusement, brought the proceedings to a close. Damns' Lodge, Kaiapoi.— A well attended meeting of persons favorable to forming a branch of the Druids' Society in this town, was held at Burnip's Kaiapoi Hotel on Tuesday evening. About fifty were present. DP. Bro. Thomson occupied the chair ;Mr rlirst the vice-ohair. Bro. WillStead, F.D.P., attended, and addressed the meeting at length on the rise and progress of the order, explaining the by-laws end benefits cant erred by the sooiety. It was moved by Mr O. Moran, seconded by Mr Pickering, and agreed to—" That a Dodge be established in Kaiapoi." Mr H Featherstone was elected secretary ; Mr W. Burnip treasurer. Bro. PS. Harrington addressed the meeting, and alluded to the success of the Lyttelton branch. It was moved by Mr Hunt,.seconded by Mr Roll, and agreed to—" That Messrs Moore, Roll, Pearoe, Linklater, Moran, Pickering, Christie, Shephard, McHlroy, Burnip, F. Pearoe, and J. Hirst, form a committee." The chsirraan stated the charter had been sent for, and might be expected in about three weeks. A vote of thanks to the visitors was passed, and the meeting was adjourned till Tuesday fortnight. St. Stephen's, Abhbustok.—At a meeting of the members of the above church, held on Monday evening, Messrs W. H. Felton and T. H. Zouoh were eleoted vestrymen for the ensuing year. Amongst other business, it was slated that the Vestry proposed to get out subscription lists, in order to raise sufficient funds to pay oi : the liability on the church, of £466. The amount now required for that purpose was £225. One gentleman had n.-amij ad to give £SO if the Vestry could, raise the balance of the debt before Salter, by which time it htd to be met. It was decided that, instead of annually, as at present, a general meeting of pariihioaert, should be held quarterly.

Commemorative Dinner. —A dinner will take place at the Commercial Hotel this evening to commemorate the twenty-first anniversary of the arrival in Ljttelton of the ship Chrysolite. . Pc-buo Menting at Ashbtoton.—a Sublio meeting was held in the Ashburton 'own Hall on Tuesday evening, to discuss the -question of the present railway charges on agricultural produce, and also to consider the question of a separate bridge for ordinary traffic over the A9hburton Hirer.
Abhbttrton Borough Council, —At the ordinary meeting of this Council, held on Monday night, it was resolved to expend the sum of £4l in ploughing, fencing, planting, land effecting other general improvements in (the appearance of Baring square west. A letter was also read from the member for Wakanui in reply to the Counoil's letter relating to tho opening of the orossing over the railway line at BSvcliok street, the reply utating that Mr Ivess would give the matter bis bsst and earliest attention. The matter of appointing someone to look after unregistered (logs, and aleo that of providing a temporary home for stray members of the oanine family, was left in the hands of the Mayor to he dealt with as he might see fit. There was Eiome other business of a minor nature transuded, but nothing of any public importsinoe.
