Cuff snd Graham, agents. THE S.S. WAIBAEAPA. The Union Steamship Company’s new steamer Wairarupa was launched from the yards of Messrs William Denny and Brothers, at Dumbarton, on 17th May, and on leaving the ways was named by Mrs John Ward, the wife of the manager of the Levon shipyard. She is of 1800 ions gross measurement, and of the following dimensions: Length between perpendiculars, 235 ft; breadth moulded, 36ft ; depth moulded, 25ft. She has been constructed of SiemensMartin stee', under special survey of Lloyd’s, ■and classed in their register 100A.1, is threadeakad, being constructed on the continuous cellular double bottom principle, with solid -floors, and adapted for water ballast. She has accommodation for 138 first class and 117 second class passengers; while, like tha Manaponri, portable fittings for a large number of third class passengers have been provided in the 'tween decks. The vessel is fitted cp by Messrs Denny and Co with compound surface-condens-ing engines of 2000 horse power indicated, the oyanders being 41 and 70 inches in diameter, and the length of stroke 48 inches. She left the Clyde for Melbourne on Tuesday last with seventy-two passengers, and is expected to be in Melbjurne by tha Ist of September. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS.
