The fire was first discovered at one o’clock this morning by a man connected with tho railway, who gave the alarm, but too late for the building to be saved. It was detached, and burnt itself out. WANGANUI. July 23. A man named David Hannah, a seaman on board the T. B. Taylor, was drowned in Wanganui river yesterday afternoon. The vessel was lying at the heads, and Hannah and another man named Robinson obtained permission from the captain to come to town. When they got half a mile away they were talking when the boat capsized. Hannah swam for tho shore, but got cramped and sank. The pilot who went out found Robinson hanging on to the boat, and picked him up. Hannah was sometime on board the Stellr and Ta Anau, and has friends in Christchurch.
