[ I AFFAIRS IN EGYPT* ARRIVAL OF TROOPS. RESORATION OP ORDER. THE GOVERNMENT OFFICES RE-OPENED. PROBABLE OCCUPATION BY TURKISH TROOPS. pBBtTTEB’S TELEGRAMS.! ALEXANDRIA, July 18. The arrival of transports from England and Malta has increased the number of English troops here to 6000. That force is now ashore, and has been placed under the command of Sir Archibald Alison. The city is now quiet and calm, and the fires have entirely ceased. Confidence is being rapidly restored, and the public offices of the Government are being re-opened. Information is to hand that Arabi Pasha is still at Kafradowar, with a portion of the Egyptian army, who are engaged in forming an entrenched position. Ragheb Pasha, the Egyptian Premier, has written a letter to Admiral Seymour completely disavowing Arabi Pasha. CONSTANTINOPLE, July 17. There are now hopeful signs that the Sultan is disposed to accept the identical note of the Great Powers, and to agree to the request made therein that a force of Turkish troops should occupy Egypt. LONDON, July 17. The issue of Admiral Seymour’s manifesto, announcing his intention to restore order, and the steps which are being taken for the equipment of troops in India, are believed to denote that Egypt is to be occupied by a British force. BOMBAY, July 17. Orders have been issued by the Indian Government for the immediate equipment of a considerable force of troops for Egypt, and it is expected that they will be despatched at an early date. ALEXANDRIA, July 17. Admiral Seymour has issued a manifesto announcing that he intends to take stringent measures for the restoration of order in the city. Major-General Sir Archibald Alison has arrived with the last detachment of troops from Malta, and has assumed command of the English land force now in Alexandria. Later. It now transpires that Sir Archibald Alison has not been appointed to the command of the land force in Alexandria, as previously announced, hut-will assume command of the force which is being organised for the protection of the Suez Canal.
