STANMORE ELECTION.

DEOLABATION OF THE POLL. At ten o’clock this morning the Returning officer, Mr G. L. Lee, made the official dederation of tho poll of Tuesday last. The number of votes polled were : Pilliet 409 Richardson ... ... 336 Oowliahaw... 214 Ho therefore declared Mr Walter Hippolyte Pilliet duly elected as member of the House of Rapr. sentatives for the electoral district of Stanmore. [Oheers.] Mr Pilliet, who on coming forward was loudly cheered, said ho had to thank them the second time within a brief period for the honour they had done him in placing him in tho honorable position he occupied as their member. He was proud of his position for several reasons, but chiefly because the electors of Stanmore had endorsed the verdict of the colony. fOheers.] He would go to Wellington and do his duty alike to the constituency and the colony. He had great pleasure in moving a vote of thanks to the Returning Officer, and also desired to tender his apology to that gentleman for tho seeming slight he had passed upon him at the nomination.

Mr Loo acknowledged the compliment, and those present (about fifty) dispersed. As intimated by cdvertioement, tha Hon. E, Richardson was unable to bo present. Mr Cowliehaw did not put in an appearance.
