OHEIBIOHHSOE Fbiday, June SO. [Before John Ollivier, 8.M., and B. Westenra, J.P.] Dbijnkbnnbss. —Mary Craig and John Dwyer were each fined 10s, or in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment, with hard labor. For a first offence, a man was fined ss, or twenty-four hours’ imprisonment, with hard labor.
Foeqbey and Utteeinq.— Wm. Boppit was charged with forging and uttering a cheque for £3l 18s, on the Bank of New South Wales, dated June 26th. On the application of the police he was remanded for twenty-four hours. Fbavd in Bankeutt.— 8. 0. C, Bennett on a charge of this nature, was remanded till, July 3rd.
LYTTELTON. Fbidat, June 30. [Before F. Bonald and J. W. Smith, Esqs., J.P.’s.] Embezzlement.— George Vine, alias Calloway, arrested by Sergeant Morioc oa Thursday on board the Malay, as she was on t’ne point of leaving for Sydney, was Irought before the Court and formally charged' with embezzlement, and was remanded for trial to Timaru.
Civil Case.— Wilson, Sawtell and Co 1 v Jones, master of the barque Janet M'Neil, claim £8 13s lid value of the whisky alleged to have leaked from a cask discharged as part cargo on the 86th of May from the Janet M'Neil. Mr Stringer appeared for the plaintiff. Mr H. N. Naldcr for defendant. The plaintiff sought to recover by showing that the cask in question was badly stowed in tho bold of the vessel. Evidence for and against this was given after hearing which the Bench gave judgment for defendant with costs.
