ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

The usual meeting of the shove society vfas held at the Commercial Hotel yesterday aft simoon. The attendance of members was not numerous. Mr John Marshman presided, Letters were read from the house steward of the hospital requesting permission to fell a number of mine trees in the grounds of the society. The permission was granted. From the Colonial Treasurer, advising tbafc a sum of £2B 10s, received for licensor, <to., had been placed to the credit of the society ut the Bank of New Z-aUnd. From the Colonial Secretary, stating that by an order of tho House the Government were required to furnish certain information, and miking tho society to send in a return of all moneys received by the society for fees, fines, grants, &c., since the passing of the Animals Protection Act in August, 1880, After some diecuitinn, tho secretary was requested to furnish the information, which was as follows :—Game licenses, £251 ; fishing licences, £254 ; from private persons, £63 14s 6d ; fine*, <fcc, from Resident Magistrate’s Court, £33 15s ; from Colonial Treasurer, cn nceount of fees, &c., £260 10s ; total, £862 19a 6J, The secretary stats;! that the collector appointed at the last meeting had not taker, up his engagement. The secretary wag instructed to offer at the end of a week the appointment to another gentlemen. In reference to amendments to tire Animals Protection Act, the matter, on the advice of Mr Peacock, had been allowed to stand over for tho present. Tho secretary of the Hokitika Acclimatisation Society had written, esking for salmon or salmon ova. He had beeninformed that they could not be suppliedOn the motion of Mr Boys, seconded by ilz Kimball, it was resolved to advertise in ths newspapers that, as the pheasant licensee expired on June 30th, all persons found shooting after that period would bo rigorously prosecuted. The seeiatary stated that he had been applied to to take charge on behalf of the society of a consignment of ferroU. It was agreed that this might bo done providing that Government paid all expenses of tbeir keep. It was mentioned that, in taking care of white fish at the request of Government, tha society had incurred an expeata of £IOO, which bad never been repaid So them. This was the whole of the business, end the meeting adjourned.
