CONGEST AT SYDENHAM.
I Last evening, the Mayor of Sydenham [ kindly prciidcd at a concert in the Odd* 'fallows’ Hall, in aid of the organ fond for the Methodist Free Church, Colombo street. I'he Bav. A. Poters, minister of that body, ocoupiod a seat on the platform beside th» chairman. Miss Bowler did much to promote the success of the entertainment bv acting as accompanist on the piano, and Mm J. Pooley as loader of the band. About two hundred and twenty ladijs, gentlemen, on! children were present. The first part ot the programme opened with an overture, from Lucia di Lammermoor, followed by a series of songs: Mountains,” Miss Howard ; “ Parkies goinw to the Bill," oomio song, Mr F. Bridges; ‘Bing the Be !a Softly,” Miss G. Goring ; 11 soil cn ! Silver Cloud,” Mr Gent ; ,l Awfully Wild.” comic, Mr Ritchie ; and, “She wore a Wreath of Roses,” Mies Had field. A laughable faroo succeeded, entitled, “ Five Odd Men of Sydenham,” in which Mr Terry interrupted the Court, witnesses, and jury, by amusing Hibornioiflms ar.d gestures, to the sp.-i.i delight of the young folk. At too chairman’s suggestion, the programme being somewhat lengthy, the delay ot an interval was dispensed with, and tho band commenced the concluding pert with a selection from “ Faust.” The songs comprised “ Barm ▼ O’Hea,” Miss Howard ; “ Off to Domarara” (comic), Mr Bridges ; “The Gallants of England,” Mr Pooley; “ Very Suapicione” (acomio song), Mias Hadficld and Mr Kerr,tho latter in character in this nuor, which was encored ; “ Sweethearts,” Mias Goring, whoso correct and sweet exposition of this song, particularly where the valee-timo is more pronounced, must have charmed the critical portion of the audience; “Stagestruck Haro,” Mr Eitohie ; 11 Lonely sinco my Mother Died,” Mr Gent; and “ The Old Lady at Large,” Mr Korr, who played tho role of a matron wearing a dainty white cop, and evidently tickled the fancy of the ladies by hia patent system of nursing a bogusbaby arrayed in long clothe?. An encore beiug demanded, Mr Kerr complied with “The Widow Malone,” Mr Pooley plsyed on tbs cornet s fantasia from “ Lucretia Borgia,” to Miss Bowroa’s pianoforte accompaniment. At twenty minutes after ten o’clock a pleasant evening closed with & few bars of the National Anthem,
