ST. ALBANS BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tho usual fortnightly mooting of tbia body was held in the Borough Council Chamber last evening at 7.30. Present—Ore. Turner (in the chair), Bull, Dickinson, Matson, Money, Blakiston. The report of the worke committee was received and adopted. The receipts for the past fortnight were stated to bo £lO3. Debit balance at bank, £4 10j 9i. Accounts passed for payment, £65 3s sd. The Under-Secretary of the Department of Justice, Wellington, wrote, staling that the House of Representatives having called for a return of tho coat in each licensing district in carrying out tho Licensing Act up to May 3lst, 1?83, the Council wore asked to forward information of tho coot incurred in the borough of St. Albans. Tho clerk was instructed to forward the information. In response to an application it was decided to extend tho Council’s patronage to an entertainment to be given at tho Oddfellows’ Hall, Christchurch, on July 10th, by the Albion Dramatic Club, in aid of the funds of tho Christchurch Benevolent Association and Female Refuge. The Avon Hoad Board wrote Stating that the Board had urged its solicitors to complete the sale of tho reserves, the proceeds of wbieh would be divided between the Avow 'toad Board and the St. Albans Borough Council without delay, Tho lettar was received,

The Heathooto Boad Board wrote stating that it was not in a position to supply the Council with screenings for footpaths, the demand in the Heathcots district being in excess of the supply. _ Or. Blakistem moved—“ That the resolution adopted at a recent meeting of the Council, authorising the engagement of a junior in the Council’s office, be rescinded." The Chairman having painted oat that it was necessary to give each Councillor at least seven days’ notice prior to rescinding a resolution, notice of the motion was then given by Or. Blakiston for consideration at the next meeting of the Council. The Council then adjourned till July 19th.
