WORKING MEN’S POLITICAL ASSOCIATION.

Last evening an ordinary meeting was held in the Freethought Hall; Mr J. Orowiey (president) in the chair. The Secretary stated that a number o£ Bills and copies of "Hansard” had been forwarded from Wellington by local members of Parliament. His Worship the Mayor of Christchurch wrote expressing a wish to become an honorary member, and enclosed a cheque for a guinea. At the same time ho felt constrained to express an opinion that the programme in its present form was somewhat one-sided. Mr J. T. Fisher also enclosed cheque for honorary membership. Mr W. Lockwood, one o£ the trustees, tendered hia resignation, owing to the projected “amalgamation” with the Otago Trades and Labor Council. The Secretary and the Chairman pointed out that this letter was apparently written under a misapprehension, it having been decided to co-operate with the council, politically and otherwise, only so far as the association’s •rules would allow. Several new members were enrolled, among them was Mr W. H. Pilliet, on Mr Pozzi’s motion. The Bight Hours Bill was discussed, and, on Mr Thomas Graham’s motion, seconded by Mr Johnson, it was resolved—" That the Canterbury members be requested to support the Bill in its entirety." Similar resolutions were passed in regard to the Employers Liability Bill to provide compensation to injured employes, and to Mr Shrimski’s Pensions Bill.
