COURSING.
CANTERBURY CLUB. Second Day. The weather for coursing yesterday was all that could be desired, but, unfortunately, the hares were both scarce and wild, only nine courses being run off, the first rounds of the Exhibition Stakes and Puppy Stakes just being got through at dusk. Better eport is promised for to-morrow, the coursing ground being about 1£ miles from the station, Mr Ranger having got permission to course over 700 acres, where it is hoped the stakes will be completed. Exhibition Stakes, first round continued — Banshee and Flora Mclvor were the first to be placed in the slips, and when sent away Flora took the lead, and driving her game to a fence, where she just managed to secure a turn before she got through, both dogs following, Flora always keeping in front, and won. One of the longest courses of the day then took place between Richmond and Vashti, the dog leading and securing first honors, his superior speed winning him the course. Miranda and Wizard then ran two no courses, and when next eent away the elut led up and won with plenty to Spard, Puppy Stake, first round—Bordeaux led Furness' Maid to a nice hare, securing first turn. The Maid was a bit slovenly in getting through a fence, and only j»ot in at the finish, When too late to balance accounts. The dog goes well, very much after the stylo of his sire. The prettiest course of the day was between Colleen Bawn and Nellie, the Azamat puppy sticking to her hare, and working in a very brilliant manner, winning without any trouble. Eussley led Obedient, who only got in for one in a fair trial, ‘Lueretia aud Girofla then ran a no course. When sent away again the sapling got possession, and never let G-irofla get in once, winning a pretty course with ease. Christsopher Columbus was too fast for Liberator in the run up, securing first and second t’Wn. Exchanges followed, but Columbus had 7 al ways the best of a long course. Bridegroom then ran a bye at dusk, which finished the day's sport.
