MELBOURNE, Juno 16. Arrived, yesterday morning—Steamship Te Anau, from Bluff. Rumors are current that in view of the present political crisis the Government intend to ask for a dissolution, but the statement requires confirmation. Failing amicable settlement between the Ministerialists and Oppposition, the defeat of the Government is considered certain. A meeting has been held between Mr Berry and twenty-two of the Opposition, and a coalition is deemed probable. It has transpired that Mr Berry and his supporters have intimated their readiness to join Mr Francis, and support his motion condemning the proposed remission of taxation.
SYDNEY, June 16. Sailed, yesterday —Zealandia for Auckland.
The negotiations which were recently resumed at Newcastle with a view to the termination of the miners strike have failed, as no agreement could be come to as to the basis upon which arbitration should be proceeded with. -.The men have now submitted their, ultimatum to Mr Gregson, manager of the Agricultural Company’s colliery, who is considering the same.
