AUCKLAND, June 15
The Governor has placod Government House at the disposal of the Commodore and offioors of tho Nelson during her stay here. It is reported in Alexandra that Bewi proceeds to Waitara to stop the Land Court there if possible.
WELLINGTON, June 15. A deputation from the New Zesland Eifle Association waited on Mr Bryce this morning, asking that the Government grant should be inoreaied to £IOOO, so as to allow tho value of prizes to be increased. The deputation mentioned that future meetings would be poripatetio, and probably the next would be held at Dunedin. Mr Bryce replied he could not at present give a definite answer, but would bring the matter before the Cabicet. He intimated, however, that in event of the £IOOO being granted, he would not sanction any further grants by Government in aid of the purohase of tents, &c. The Education Department have promued liberal support towards the establishment of a Girls' High Sohool in We'lington, providing a suitable building could be obtained at a low rate of intsrest.
DUNEDIN, June 15
The body of Walter Bridges, a fireman, was found in the well of tho new dredge this morning. He was missed during the night, and it is supposed he fell into the well, striking the buckets. He leaves a wifo and five children entirely destitute.
