THE EXHIBITION.
Tha attendance yesterday was very good, particularly in the evening. The Austrian Band, both afternoon and evening, played a ▼ary nice selection of music, which wash'ghly appreciated by tha aidionce. The Poultry Show attracted a large number of visitors. The pigeon race from Ashburton, ter which there were six entries, resulted as follows ; Mr A. Turnbull's Jeannette, time 2h 31m, I - Mr O. Smith’s Pilot, time 2h 33m„ 2j Mr O. Smith’* Young Moore, time 2h 320 n, 3 ; Mr G. Herd’s Rover, time 2n 31m, 4. From the above it will bo scon that Mr C. Smith’s pair both arrived at h) same time to secure second honors. The ducks and geeae were judged yesterday, with the following results:—Goess- Ist, J. T Pepperell. Aylesbury ducks—lst and Mr Ruddonklau’s special prize for beat Aylesbury ducks in show, J. Mather ; 2nd, J. E. Bashfotd. Rouen ducks— J. Mather Ist, W. A. Willis 2nd. The art union was drawn last night, and the prize list appears elsewhere. All prizes must be ■claimed by 8 p.m. to-night. To day children accompanied by their parents will be admitted at half rates. Arrangements have boon made by the promoters for an exhibition at an early date by the oxy-hydrogon light of a series of most beautiful views of various parts of the world. The pictures intended to be shown are most artistic —indeed, by far the best that have ever been seen hero, and a great treat is anticipated. The following supplementary awards and reports have been received Section 1., class 4 —First order of merit, silver medals, to Brooks, Shoobridga and Co., Essex, for sample of Portland cement; 0. Richardson, Vauxhall, London, for Portland cement. Section 11., silver medals awarded to winnowers by Thos. Corbett, exhibited by Booth and Song ; also to the easy lawn mower shown by the same firm. McOomas’ water lift, silver medal; Andrews and Boavon, horse power, silver medal ; Nicholson and 00., stripper and winnower, silver medal ; the “Rider ” hot air engine, gold medal ; R. W. Tyler, circular saw shield, silver medal. In this section the judges write that a mistake must hava occurred in the award to P. and D, Duncan’s ploughs, which was a gold medal. In Section 111. the jurors add to their report on the ranges of Sidney, Flavell and 00. the following :—“The jury consider these ranges are, on the whole, the finest shown in the Exhibition, and that the workmanship also is of the best quality.” In -Section IV. the jurors award a silver medal to Bond’s marking ink. In Section V. the jurors award a silver medal to F. Sohreinber Neffien, Vienna (represontatiro P. F. Marioh), for glass,, and speak highly of the exhibit. In Section VI. the jurors award a certificate of gold medal to Mr Walter Geo for his collection of blinds. &3. To Mr W. H. Hargreaves they award a silver medal for his exhibit of doors, sashes, &c., and recommend a certificate of gold medal for general display. A certificate of gold medal is also awarded by the experts in Section VI. to the exhibit of wool mats by J. A. Bayley, Excelsior Works, Burnside, Dunedin. In Section VII. the jurors recommend a certificate of gold medsl to Patrick ond 00., of Melbourne, for bicycles. In Section VIII-, Genrioke, Clements and 00., of Belgium, receive a silver medal for collection of ■cotton blankets ; and H. J. Lsqueno Vincent, and Pirenne Frerca of Verviers, Belgium, certificates of gold medals for tweeds. In Section XI. a silver medal is awarded to J. Patterson, Tapanui, Otago, for flour and oatmeal. In Section XIT. the jurors call attention to the fact that the first award recorded to Oarew and 00., and Allan_ and Sons, is a mistake, these exhibits receiving commendation only; Kesaoll and 00., for ■anoe, should also appear in the second order of merit. In Section XV., the jurors award silver medals to Wimble and 00. for guillotine machine, and to Maokellar, Smith and Jordan, of Boston, for exhibit of metal types, Mr Crook, described as an expert, also recommends a first-class certificate to J. T. Smith and 00. for bookbinding. In Section XXI, Ladies’ Court, the jurors award a ailver medal to Mrs Nelson, of Adelaide, for bracelets- crosses, &0., made of the seeds of the melon and various plants ; also a bronze medal to Mrs 8. Wood, Richmond road, for pillow lace. Dr. Irving and Mr Ohrystall report specially on the bee exhibits of Mr Ohaplin land appliances in terms of high commendation, awarding a silver medal, with n recommendation for a certificate of a gold medal. The same experts recommend a silver medal to the exhibits of the Canterbury Bee Farm, and a bronze medal to that of Mr A. Searle,
