WAIPARA ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of tho Waipara Road Board took place on Monday at the office, Waikari. Present Messrs J. D. Lance (chairman), W. Parkerson, and N. 0. Wade. Mr Nicholson attended on the Board and asked to have the water looked to on the Waikari Valley road. Two or three pipes turned the water on to Mr Birnie’a land, and if the ditch were deepened, it would be prevented, The surveyor was instructed to look at it, and, if requisite, to have it done, J. Kennedy came in, requesting a settlement of his account The Board gave him a cheque for final payment on No. 8 contract, but on No. 4 contract his account and theirs did not agree. The following correspondence was then read From the Mandeville and Rangiora Boad Board, asking the attendance of the members of this Board at a meeting to be held at Bangiora on tho 3rd of July to consider the circular of the Colonial Secretary regarding the government of local bodies. The Board considered that their answer must be sent to the Government before July 3rd, but would be happy to attend the meeting. A letter from Messrs Garrick and Oowlishaw, stating that Mr Lewis was quite willing for the road through section 10351 to be closed. The chairman said he would write and inform them that they must refer to the letter of last month. It was public property, and the Board had not any wish to stop it. A rate was struck of 6d in the £, payable on the 19th of June. The clerk was told to advertise for a poundkeoper, the applications to be sent in by next Board day. The surveyor was instructed to put stone on the North road, near the Waikari, and to put two small bridges in on the Waikari Valley road. The (surveyor's report was then read. Accounts amounting to £269 15s were passed for payment.
