THE CONVICT HIROKI.

[.PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.] NEW PLYMOUTH, June 7. It in said that Hiroki's wife visited him a few days ago, and after showing marked sympathy for her husband, ihe began to upbraid him for trusting in Te Whiti, and asserted that his blind trust had landed him in his present position. He could see now, when too late, that Te Whiti could not save him. It is also stated that Hiroki had a dream abont a week ago, in which he imagined he found mutton fish, but they were only empty shells. He was deeply impressed by this dream, and stated that it was an ill omen. He said that in eight days from that day he would be exeouted. Aroh leaoon Govett has attended the prisoner, at I administered spiritual consolation to him. Hiroki appears to be fervent in his devoti >ns. Thare will only be a few spectators present to-morrow at his execution.

I learn that Hiroki's oonfession is a tissue of falsehoods and contradictions. Its chief feature is an attempt to implicate another Maori as well as himself—a man who enquiry has shown to be wholly unconnected with the offuir. Probably this is some private grudge of Hiroki's. The latter also persists in asserting that he killed MoLcan in selfdefence, but here again, forgetting his former statements, he has uttered a string of palpable inconsistencies. I understand there was absolute unanimity in the Executive as to carrying out the death sentence.
